Revamped and Rewarded
The trophy cases in the high school hold commemoration for some students’ best highschool memories. Some people think that the trophy cases are the best ways to display these, where some people wish we would explore other options to hold the full value of the awards.
The case holds some vintage trophies from as early as 1941. Clay Frigon, athletic director, found these trophies while updating their cases over the summer.
“As you are going from the office down [to the cafeteria], that’s where we keep all of the vintage ones,” Frigon said.
Frigon spent time with some of the custodians and Chantel Volkman to even out the amount of trophies for each activity and add new ones. Having room in the display cases to display all of the trophies has become an issue with the schools recent growth and success.
“We tried to reduce the amount of trophies in there. We try to keep regionals, sub-state, and all state trophies and organize it in a way where we could fit more of cheer, dance, and orchestra,” Frigon said.
As a coach, father, and administrator, Frigon is proud of these achievements and wants to be sure that they are displayed despite the loss of space.
“I think it’s always important to promote student achievement. We want to use anything we have to promote success and support students working together towards a common goal,” Frigon added.
Nora Ide, 10, on the other hand, is a part of the band which has been awarded many trophies every year. The band chooses to keep the trophies displayed in the band room as motivation.
“I like that we keep ours in the band room because marching is a pretty unique sport and I feel like our wins wouldn’t be as appreciated by normal students,” Ide said.
Ide would rather have the trophies displayed in the coaches’ classrooms so they can be looked at more often and cherished more personally.
“Maybe the teachers that are coaches could keep their respective trophies in the case or on a shelf in their room so that kids could actually see them more often and the teacher has something that they worked for with them,” Ide added.
The trophy cases are located on the south side of the building outside of the gym. Be sure to check out some of the awards on display and recognize not only those who earned those, but also who work behind the scenes to make that possible.
