Native American Woman Astronaut makes History
NASA astronaut, Nicole Mann, is a Native American from the Wailacki tribe. She is the first Native American woman that has been to space. She used the support of her tribe, along with her mothers advice, to help her overcome the challenges she faced. She took a dreamcatcher with her that her mother gave her when she was a child. The dreamcatcher symbolizes protection in her culture.
As of 2020, there are over 2.6 million Native Americans in America. Nicole Mann made history on Oct. 5 when she went to space. She showed the world that not only can you achieve your dreams, but that it doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from, or how much money you have. As long as you are true to yourself you can make a difference.
