Unsafe Mine Collapses in China
An open pit mine collapsed in China leaving 2 dead and over 50 missing. A wall of red dirt and sand could be seen rushing into the pit with mining vehicles below. Last year, the mine was fined and cited multiple times for safety violations. The violations included unstable mining routes, lack of overseers, and unsafe storage.
The region of the collapse is crucial for coal and other natural materials that ruined the previous landscape. China’s main source of power comes from the mined coal. This brings up the issue of unsafe mining of non-renewable resources such as coal. More sustainable outlets could be used to better the environment and safety of those working in mines.
