Ex-attorney put on Trial for Multiple Financial Charges and Murder
Alex Murdaugh, ex-attorney from South Carolina, stands on trial for a number of charges. The most notable are stealing money from clients, tax evasion, and the murder of his wife and son. He has not admitted to killing his wife and son, but has confessed to lying about where he last saw them. Murdaugh has also admitted to lying many other times and has weaved a web of lies throughout the trial and investigations.
Whether or not he is convicted of murder, he will not walk away as a free man. Due to his other charges he may be sentenced to decades of jail. The trial went back and forth due to his lies. He claimed that once he first lied to investigators he felt the need to continue. Lies told in court, and in this case during the investigation as well, can prolong the trial.
