Why does US contradict Chinese owned TikTok security threat?

Lawmakers in the U.S interrogated the TikTok CEO, Shou Zi Chew, about the data security and harmful content. Currently the app is being pushed to be banned nationwide. Some of the concerns and questions have been expressed about the ownership of TikTok. TikTok has over 150 million American users, and is wholly owned by a subsidiary of Chinese technology firm, ByteDance LTD.

Western government is worried that the Chinese authorities could force ByteDance to give away the data of TikTok from American users, and how the ByteDance could possibly expose sensitive or personal information. ByteDance claims that 60 percent of the shares are owned by non-chinese investors. Employees own about 20 percent and the founders own 20 percent also. If not some, most of the details between TikTok and ByteDance remain imprecise to outsiders of the app.
