Volcanic Eruption Covers Village in Ash
On early Tuesday morning, an active volcano erupted on the eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. The ash cloud covered more than 300 miles of land and local villages were struck with gray dust covering their homes. Local authorities recommended the towns to stay indoors and shutdown schools. Scientists examined this by-product to be the largest in 60 years.
Residents dealing with health issues are potentially more at risk from the side-effects of the eruption and could be evacuated. The Kamchatka Peninsula is one of the most concentrated areas of geothermal activity in the world and currently has 30 active volcanoes.
