With the new school year, many activities and sports are starting up again; In addition, the musical season has begun once more. The show of choice this year is ‘The Music Man.’ ‘The Music Man’ features some popular songs such as, ‘Ya Got Trouble’, ‘Shipoopi’, and ‘Gary, Indiana.’ The show days are Nov. 16 through Nov. 18 of this school year.
“I still was scared. I ‘Shipoopied’ my pants.” Kaitlyn Ramey, 12, said. “It was terrifying. It was scary. Even though I’m old, and I’ve done this every year, I was still scared.”
There are several different layers to the musical audition process, including tech leadership interviews. Some seniors have been participating in theater since freshman year. Through the ups and downs that have occurred in their high school theater career, there has always been one commonality: auditions and interviews.
“I knew exactly what I was doing. I went in there, I used the same portfolio I’ve used for my whole career, and I was like, this is exactly how I do stuff every year. They see it every year.” Brayton Boxberger, 12, said.
Even though the process is the same for every production, nerves are expected. Those who have done it for years, have strategies at play to ensure they won’t be nervous during or prior.
“Don’t be nervous. I didn’t have a single stomach flip the whole day because I forgot about it. It’s so easy. If you’re qualified for the job, which you will be, because they’ll teach you, you’ll do great,” Boxberger said, “Take some deep breaths, calm yourself, you’re going to be fine.”
The musical will open November 16, and will continue nightly shows on Nov 17 and close on Nov 18.
