On Oct. 1 at around 1 p.m, a plane coming from Newton, KS. landed at the Johnson County executive airport. After the plane had been reported to have an engine failure, the pilot started gliding to the start of the runway. It fell short of the runway and ended up flipping over before stopping entirely. The pilot was the only occupant in the plane.
Johnson County MED-ACT responded to the incident, but the pilot was uninjured. It isn’t yet known what caused the aircraft’s engine to fail right before landing. The airport will be closed as the FAA and NTSB investigate the cause, the reopening date is unknown. With technology improving year by year, things like this should become less frequent to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
