Many people love homecoming, but many don’t realize how much work goes into the planning aspect of the event. The fall homecoming planning responsibilities goes to the high school’s Student Council. Multiple hours of planning, decorating, discussing, and ordering, goes into making homecoming a fun experience.
“I probably spend 4-5 hours after school a day, during the week of homecoming.” Brynna Pierson, 11, said.
The first fall homecoming plan meeting was held at the high school a week before students came back for the 2023-24 school year. All members of STUCO are expected to give their opinions and participate in discussions. Shayna Shekhar, 12, is the student body president, and overlooks all homecoming committees.
“There are moments when everyone works together, but not everyone participating is hard.” Shekhar said.
Homecoming is all hands on deck, as pleasing the student body is a big task. Everyone has a role and everyone has to help out, or else it gets extremely stressful.
“You could think of an amazing idea, but it takes a lot of people to make that idea happen,” Sekhar said.
Even with a student council of 33 members, teamwork is still a key in making homecoming a reality.
“If we don’t have one piece of the puzzle, it’s not going to fit into a collective, coherent homecoming,” Pierson said.
At the end of the day, there will be a line out the door of the gymnasium. The decorations will be up, the centerpieces made, and the tickets end up sold. But behind the scenes, the members of the student council take a deep breath and enjoy themselves after all the hard work they’ve put in months before.
