On Sunday, Nov. 12 there was a shooting at Oak Park Mall. Shortly after 4 p.m. two men were suspected of shoplifting and were followed by three detectives near the food court. When detectives tried to stop the suspects from leaving the mall the unthinkable happened; one of the shoplifting suspects was able to grab a gun from one of the three undercover officers and fire one shot.
Lucky no one was hit by a bullet and both shoplifting suspects are in custody. KCTV5 reached out to mall workers and shoppers as Oak Park was evacuated. Everyone was so shocked to see such a terrible situation in a normally peaceful area. As citizens of Johnson County, it is important to stay cautious of the surroundings and be alert to the people around.
