The Super Bowl is a highly anticipated game every year for NFL fans across the globe. From the high stakes game, the celebrities, the halftime show, and the comical commercials, fans all over the world tune in and party on Super Bowl Sunday.
Watching the game this year was a completely different vibe from the previous Super Bowls the Chiefs were in. Many people are frustrated that the Chiefs continue to win and many believe that the league favors the team. Others are frustrated with the presence of Taylor Swift following the beginning of their relationship with Travis Kelce. I feel that the criticism women, including myself, face in football by other fans is extremely disheartening and upsetting. Seeing this hate in the media is worrying for younger girls who may see this and lose the passion and love for football, and believe that they can’t love things just because they are a girl.
The halftime show this year was highly anticipated with Usher performing. I felt that the show was alright. I was super excited to see Alicia Keys perform “My Boo” with Usher; however, many people, including myself, were not very impressed with this part of the show. Usher was very touchy with Keys during the song, which was odd since Keys has been married for some time now. This left an uneasy feeling for many fans, making the rest of the performance undesirable.
This year’s game wasn’t particularly interesting until the teams went into overtime. This year the league revised the rules for overtime games in the playoffs. The rules allow for both teams to have possession of the ball to have a chance to score. Following the game, the 49ers commented that they had never gone over overtime strategies during practice. On the other hand, the Chiefs covered overtime strategies every day to be prepared for the possibility of overtime. This proved to have a huge impact on the game since the Chiefs were able to win during overtime.
Super Bowl LVIII was a game with many ups and downs. The game went from boring to sitting on the edge of my seat really quickly. Watching the game with other people always adds to the atmosphere of the game because the excitement bounces around the room. Spending a Sunday evening with the people I love most to enjoy football together will always be a memory I cherish.
