The UN has issued its first official demand for a cease-fire in Gaza. However, the U.S. abstained from the vote. This angered Israel and led them to cancel their visit to Washington D.C. This is arguably the strongest clash between the two since the war began.
John Kirby, national security spokesman, and the American Ambassador stated that they abstained instead of vetoed “because it does fairly reflect our view that a cease-fire and the release of hostages come together.” Many countries around the world are looking at the situation in the Middle East, and, whether U.S. citizens agree or not, the U.S. is involved in the issue.
