Last Friday, China launched a lunar probe to land on the far side of the moon with the goal to return with samples. There are three Chinese lunar probe missions that are planned over the next four years. The rocket carried the lunar probe and then the two separated in space. The lander will begin to drill into the surface of the moon and scoop up samples with its robotic arm. It is planned to return back to Earth with the samples sealed in a container after 53 days.
Large crowds of people viewed the launch from beaches as it is the first time anyone has retrieved samples from the far side of the moon. Just like previous launches, the event was broadcasted on live television. People are constantly striving to expand our knowledge and information about space.
