Bill Passed Over Natural Hair
Last summer in July a new bill in California was passed to end discrimination on women’s natural hair. This bill took effect on Jan. 1 this year, and legally gives people the ability to sue employers if they feel they are being discriminated against for their choice of hair. Before this bill, people who worked in the public school and other placed were forced to change their natural hair to be able to work there.
While this bill was passed last year this is still relevant to our society today. The winner of the 2020 short film Oscar was HAIR LOVE. The story followed an African American father who was trying to style his daughters’ hair which is thicker and kinkier than most. This film was all about appreciating your natural hair and not feeling like you need to change it to look like others.
