A Peek into Education

According to EducationWeek, United States has one of the worst education systems among first world countries. Walking through the hallways of a high-school each day, students make complaints such as, “I wish my mom would call me out so I could go home” or “I hate school, I don’t understand why the government forces us to go to school.”

However, few student’s realize just how lucky they are to be receiving an education.

“I think [receiving an education] is an important thing for everyone to understand the world around them, our country, and what needs to be done [in the world]. I think everyone should be given an education just to know what they need to do as a citizen and a person in the world,” Colin Rauenzahn, 10 said.

Like Rauenzahn, Isabella Andree, 10, agrees that receiving an education is an important part of everyone’s life that not everyone is able to have.

“I think having an education is a very privileged thing, because there are places where you cannot get an education or have to pay a lot of money to get education. It is definitely a privilege, and [receiving] any education is better than no education,” said Andree.

Education allows for students to learn about the world around them and gives them opportunities to form bonds with others and participate in extracurricular activities.

Although many argue that the poor education system in the United States decreases the value of their education, this is not true and student’s have already thought of ways schools could be improved.

“[The education systems] need some work on different things…they should offer more individualized classes and [offer] more stuff that students are interested in.ess people want to take the older [original] classes and they are more interested in new tech-y classes,” Jackson Brown, 9, said.

While some students may want new classes implemented, other students believe that the student themself could make their education better.

“I think people need to take it [school] more seriously and [others need to] make sure people are putting in the effort so that they can learn better,” Rauenzahn said.

Although there is always a way to improve the education we are receiving, students need to realize that they are taking their education opportunities for granted and that they have all the tools for success right in front of them, they just need to take them and run.

Madi Brown, Staff Writer
Hey guys! I’m Madi Brown, I'm a sophomore and this is my first year in SPUB! I have previous experience in journalism and photography and I am so excited to share stories about what’s going on in the world, but more specifically our school. Journalism is an interest in my life that I don’t share with a lot of my friends and I love how it is just my own little thing. When I'm not in my room doing homework or at practice you will more than likely find me reading a book, drinking coffee, or hanging out with my friends.
