Halloween is known for its traditions, particularly how those traditions change based on your age. Trick-or-treating is a centerpiece of Halloween for many ages, but what is the appropriate age to stop this tradition?
Almost uniformly, the staff agreed that anyone should do what they feel is fun and pertains to how they celebrate Halloween. Many staff members shared the belief that there shouldn’t be an age limit to trick-or-treating since society shouldn’t decide what is appropriate.
“The proper way to celebrate Halloween is to spend it however you want! It is a holiday and so you should just have fun,” Lily Bunker, reporter, said.
However, a few members of staff felt that there should be an age limit to trick-or-treating, the consensus being that the limit for trick-or-treating should be around 18 years old, mainly because of how adults participating interferes with kids who are trick-or-treating.
“If you’re an adult, I would consider throwing parties with friends and handing out candy to children that come knocking, or if you have kids take them trick-or-treating,” Marrius Hinton, reporter, said.
Personally, I agree with the notion that you should do whatever allows you to have the most fun possible on Halloween. For some, it’s going to a costume party; for others it’s trick-or-treating. In my opinion, celebrating how you want is the key to making any holiday or occasion enjoyable.
“In my opinion, there is never a time where someone is ‘too old’ to trick-or-treat. I think it is just a fun activity to do with friends or family and there shouldn’t be an age restriction to having a good time,” Kayley Tran, Online Editor in Chief, said.
