For the week of prom, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) displayed a mock car crash in front of the school on the ramp to the lower parking lot.
“I don’t think [we have ran the mock car crash] since before COVID[-19],” Gissel McDonald, SADD co-sponsor, said.
The project’s goal is to educate students and parents about the dangers of driving under impairment, specifically under the influence of alcohol.
“As a national organization…. they have initiatives, and one of them is to drive safe during prom season. It’s not uncommon [for] a lot for schools across the nation to do something like this,” McDonald said.
While both McDonald and Madeline Kohler, co-sponsor, organize the project, Deputy Trevor Ramos, school resource officer, played a unique role in analyzing the topics that SADD spreads awareness over.
“We team up with officer Ramos to talk to him about the things he’s seeing. He was key in getting that car for us.”
