On Sunday, Apr. 12, an AI-generated image of President Trump in a white robe and red shawl with “glowing” hands was posted to his social media. It faced backlash from many Christians, calling it “blasphemous.” A prominent conservative activist named Riley Gaines represented much of their concern in stating, “God shall not be mocked.” When questioned about it, the President said he thought it just depicted him as a doctor, while VP JD Vance dismissed it as a “joke,” saying that those offended by it did not understand the humor.
No matter where personal beliefs lie, it is always important to consider the message that anything posted on social media conveys before it is posted. Additionally, those who are the faces of any group must at all times have respect for those they represent. This can be applied to leaders on the global and national level, but also to those on the local level.
