On Monday night at the 49ers’ media night there was much talk about the Superbowl but most of the attention was focused on Katie Sowers who will make history as the first woman and openly gay coach to work the Superbowl. Sowers hopes that she is blazing a path for others to follow. Sowers grew up in Hesston Kan. and always dreamed of going to the Superbowl. She played in the Women’s football alliance and for USA Football’s national team. After sustaining severe injuries she went back to Kansas City and earned her master’ s degree. Sowers joined the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship in 2016  which took her to San Francisco. She was hired as an offensive assistant. She loves her job and loves inspiring young girls everywhere to follow their dreams.

Katie Sowers is breaking the glass ceiling by coaching a predominantly male sport. She inspires girls everywhere and shows that gender or sexuality can’t stand in their way if they put their minds to what they want.
