Russia is likely going to extend their nuclear arms agreement with the U.S., according to reports from the Kremlin (photo courtesy AP News).

The Kremlin will likely accept President Joe Biden’s proposal to extend the nuclear arms control treaty between both countries. The old proposal, signed in 2010, was set to expire in two weeks. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said “We can only welcome political will to extend the document…but all will depend on the details of the proposal.”

The last proposal was signed by President Barack Obama in 2010. The terms on that document stated that it will limit each country to no more than 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads, and 700 missiles and bombers. “Certain conditions for the extension have been put forward, and some of them have been absolutely unacceptable for us, so let’s see first what the U.S. is offering,” Peskov said. Having this order set in place will keep both countries safe, and is a good start to the Biden administration.
