On Sunday, Mar. 12, the Oscars will be held, and every year since 1961 there has been a red carpet. This year, there will be a carpet, but it will not be red. The carpet was unveiled by the host, Jimmy Kimmel, and it was champagne white instead of red. The decision was made by Lisa Love and Raúl Åvila, the creative consultants of the Oscars. There will also be a cover over the carpet to ensure that bad weather will not ruin the event, but also to make the pictures look more elegant. Usually, the attendees arrive in the midday, and it throws off the black tie formality of the event.

Although the tradition of the red carpet has been going on for 62 years, there is always room for change. The red to champagne color change may be because the champagne color gives the Oscars a more classy vibe. The Oscars are continually trying to gain new viewership and allowing for change may also draw more watchers in.
