Three New Star Wars Films Announced

On Friday, April 7, Lucasfilm announced three new Star Wars films at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration Europe in London. There will be three different directors for the three films. The first film will go back to the emergence of the Jedi and will be directed by James Mangold, who also directed “Logan” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” The second film will be directed by Dave Filoni, who helped direct “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka.” Filoni’s film will connect many of the Disney+ Star Wars Series’ and highlight the New Republic. The last film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will include Daisy Ridley as Rey, and concentrate on the events after “The Rise of Skywalker.”

The dates of these films have not been announced, but the franchise plans to put out a new Star Wars movie every two years. Beyond the three movies, other upcoming Star Wars projects include “Ahsoka,” “The Acolyte,” and the final season of “Andor” that will all come out in late 2023 and early 2024.
