Is Homework Really Necessary?

Students go to school for almost seven hours a day, five days a week. Why should we have more work to do at home? Especially when kids get to junior high and high school, having to juggle work from many different classes is stressful. Sports, arts, and some of us even have jobs. I know at least three people who have jobs, for a multitude of reasons. Some parents make students get jobs so they can pay for their car, and some make them just because they want them to have experience, but honestly whatever the reason, students have a life outside of school.

Teenagers don’t need to live the majority of their young lives doing school work that they will not remember in four months. Assigning homework for the sole purpose of having school work at home and not giving time to do it in class is, in all honesty, dumb. I think the work we do in class, that takes up our whole day, is enough.

We are at the point in our lives where we need to be living just as much as learning. Something similar to homework is busy work. In my opinion, teachers who assign work for no reason other than to give work is such a waste of time for all parties. The students have to do it and then the teachers complain about the grading, even though they gave the work.  In conclusion, we don’t need as much work in order to learn something. Less work might even help students learn more, especially none at home.

Jordyn Vander Veur, Staff Writer
Hey! I'm Jordyn Vander Veur.  This will be my first year being a part of the SPUB staff. I can’t wait for all of the opportunities I will get as I'm getting more involved with school things, and I'm glad to be a part of something that can put a smile on people’s face. I took Journalism last year, and while that's my only school experience, I've loved writing since I can ever remember. I'm looking forward to a year of new decisions, and I'm excited to be able to tell my kids when I'm 30 I helped design the yearbook in highschool!
