The world agreed to a new climate deal in Dubai at the COP28 summit. However, The Global Stocktake used vague language that could allow countries to take minimal actions. Some countries say the deal signals the end of the fossil fuel era, but others say it is still far from halting the sufficient urgency of the climate crisis. Instead of calling to “phase out” oil, coal, and gas, the agreement calls on countries to “contribute” to global efforts to reduce carbon pollution in ways they see fits.

The unmatched global heat has caused extreme weather including record wildfires, deadly heat waves, and catastrophic floods. 2023 is officially the hottest year on record and it is anticipated that 2024 will still be warmer. Due to a combination of human caused global warming and other factors, the climate of the world is increasing rapidly.

Kayley Tran, Staff Writer
Hello! My name is Kayley Tran. This is my first year joining the SPUB staff. I am looking forward to improving my writing skills and being more involved with the high school. I was in Journalism my freshman year and I was a part of the yearbook staff in 8th grade. Journalism is important because it captures the voice of people and informs others. I am excited to see where this year takes me and I hope to learn as much as I can throughout the year!
