Luke Torrez, 12, and Adiel Garcia , 12, get fourth in state debate. They worked hard throughout the semester and had a lot of accomplishments.

The 2023 debate season ended last weekend with two Spring Hill teams qualifying and attending the tournament. Max Pacheco, Kailey Howell, Adiel Garcia, and Luke Torrez all represented our school at Olathe North, with one team going to the quarterfinal round.

“I feel very amazed that we finished fourth in the state. It was something that I never thought would happen.” Garcia stated, “and I am satisfied with how much effort we put in.”

With the success that Garcia and his partner achieved over the weekend, they have also felt that the school has shown a great deal of appreciation for the debate club over the past four years that they have been involved with the activity.

“I have definitely felt appreciated at Spring Hill in terms of debate. I remember last year, Mr. Young would always tell us congratulations after hearing how we did over the announcements.”

Hello! I am Luke Torrez and this is my first year in SPUB. I am so excited to write about all of the events, activities, and clubs our school has to offer, along with any pressing matters so that the student body can be informed. I have taken Journalism 1, and am excited to put the skills that I have learned to good use. I encourage anyone curious about the subject to take Journalism 1 because journalism is the bomb diggity.
