A new Missiouri bill would classify assisting in transgender minors’ “social transition” as a felony. This “social transition” is classified as changes to pronouns, physical appearance, or name changes. Moreover, teachers who encourage minor students’ transitions will be classified as registered sex offenders.
These changes, while not affecting Spring Hill, are increasingly close to home. Furthermore, the more these bills are made and put into effect, the more transgender people are put under bad light. The vagueness of this bill also makes convicting any person who is guilty that much harder. These bills only perpetuate the war between liberals and conservatives on the issue of LGBTQ+ rights.
