Winter finals can be stressful even though many students would agree they are not as stressful as spring finals. Since many students don’t take them as seriously, there are a plethora of ways students cope with them that may be a little unconventional.
Here are some of the most unconventional ways the SPUB staff members cope with finals:
Madi Brown, 12, yearbook manager: “Some of my favorite ways that I have historically coped with the stress of finals include going to get an excessive amount of Taco Bell, driving around with my windows down blasting music (even if it is freezing outside), and finally implementing many hours of floor time into my daily routine.”
Lenore Pinkerton, 11, reporter: “When it comes to finals week, I have to pull out all the stops. Oftentimes it will line up with my most recent Minecraft phase, so I will make sure the big light is off and put on all my small ones, turn my bed into a nest, and put on a movie with my headphones in so I can lock in and study until I’m done. Then I play Minecraft. I also do the nightmare rotation of like 20 minutes of homework, pass out for 10 minutes, and wake myself up with an hour of TikTok…”
Kayley Tran, 12, online EiC and senior ads manager: “I have two little random things I do during finals season. The first is watching ‘Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse.’ It’s my comfort show, and I can watch it without turning on my brain which is perfect when my mind feels like it’s at war with all the studying. Another thing I do is pick one stuffed animal from my massive collection to be my study buddy, and then I rotate them whenever I feel like it.”
Preston Coffey, 10, video production member: “To make the finals season more fun, I play a lot of video games like NBA 2K, Fortnite, Roblox, and a lot more. I watch basically every NBA game, especially the Warriors. I play basketball every time it’s over 30 degrees.”
Many of the other staff members just said that they do small things like rewatching a comfort show or movie, reading, and eating lots of snacks. Finals can be overwhelming for many, but these silly little rituals students have can bring joy to a stressful time and allow them to relax.
