Beyond the Bell: Preparing for the Future

This video shows how students across a variety of programs say their school experiences shape futures. Students involved in HOSA, National Honor Society, Robotics, Video Production, Public Speaking and more classes and clubs talk about how they helped them build lifelong skills, get scholarships, and a variety of things that help them beyond high school.

Poll results show those same experiences. Students reported that preparation for life and careers come from organizations, academic clubs and core classes. Programs tied to leadership, communication, teamwork and technical skills were mentioned often, showing how each student has a class that has prepared them for their future and has helped them beyond the classroom.

Core classes also played a major role. English, math, science, and social sciences were next to electives such as healthcare, financial literacy, and career and life planning. Students said these classes helped them gain real-world skills.

Together, the video and poll data show that student success is not built in just one classroom or club. Instead, it comes from a combination of classes, activities and experiences that help students find themselves better prepared for the future.

Hi! My name is Ryker Marmon, and this is my first year in SPUB. I took Publications in middle school and really enjoyed it. I’m on the video team this year because I really enjoyed A/V Fundamentals. I’ve always liked writing in school, and if it’s something I’m passionate about, I really enjoy it. To me, journalism is a way to explain things and to share, whether that’s sharing news or just talking about a topic. There are entertainment sides of journalism, but overall it’s a way to talk about things you don’t always talk about, things that are important and necessary. Outside of school I play video games, occasionally read, watch movies and shows, and that’s about it.

I’m Preston, I’m a sophomore and this is my first year in SPUB. I am a reporter. My experience with writing is just writing in school. Journalism matters so people know what’s happening in the world. I am unemployed, I play video games and basketball in my free time.

Hiiiii there! My name is Marrius Hinton. I’m a sophomore and this is my first year in  SPUB. The reason I joined SPUB is because I enjoyed A/V production and making videos. I do have experience making videos and writing but not publishing them on social media. I’m really excited to make memories with the people in SPUB and make new connections. I make art commissions for thumbnails, designs, and stretches in my free time!
