April 26 at 7 p.m., students gathered to perform talents of their choosing in front of a crowd of friends and family during the theater department’s annual Variety Show. Ranging from K-POP to piano improvisation, these acts were very entertaining and sure to please. Each performer offered a show with their singing, acting, dancing, or instrumental skills which was impressive and captivating.
One of my favorite acts, and a huge crowd pleaser, was the musical theater performance by Andon Maddox, 11, Zachary Vasser, 11, Ethan Knust, 12, and Daniel Liang, 11, of Sweet Tooth from the motion picture Wonka (2023). The vocal aspect of their performance was excellent while hilariously enthralling, and their dance as well as acting only added to the splendor of the act.
Another act that stood out from the crowd was the K-POP dance performed by Breckynne Johnson and Presley Fagan, 11. With impressive choreography and music to match, this dance number, which happened to be the only dance featured in the showcase, was exciting and well done.
A number of solos, such as Amaliya Barker’s performance of Don’t Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl (1968), featured stunning vocals that kept the audience spellbound.
Overall, the performances were well done and I am looking forward to seeing even more of a variety of talent next year.
