32-year-old Samantha Jo Smith was located and arrested after Garden City Police in Wichita, KS obtained an arrest warrant. It was not until four years later, were they able to prosecute them and they were then found in South Carolina three month after the warrant. Once sent back to Kansas, they will be charged for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
In 2019, Garden City police got a call about a person down. When they arrived, they found Ernie Ortiz in the El Conquistador restaurant parking lot with fatal gunshot wounds. Someone was arrested in 2020 but then let go without prejudice, allowing the case to be reopened if any new evidence was found.
