In Kampala, a community near Uganda’s capital, a boarding school for blind students caught fire, leaving 11 young girls dead and six other people critically injured and hospitalized. The cause for the fire is not yet known. The Victims, including girls from the ages of seven and ten, were so severely burned they can’t be recognized.

Overcrowded dorms and no fire fighting equipment made it difficult to put out the fire quickly. Many believe this could have been prevented. Kinubi, the Salama School for the Blind administrator, knew that the school was a risk. There have been other incidents with schools near Kampala in the past.
