A new report from the CDC states that there were 52,000 deaths linked to alcohol in 2021. The death toll is up almost 30% from 2019. These alcohol related death statistics are independent from drunk driving. Main causes include liver or pancreas failure, alcohol poisoning, and other diseases stemming from alcohol.

While the alcohol-related deaths have been steadily on the rise for the past decade, a recent major jump has been pinned to the COVID-19 lockdown. The lockdown led to an increase in alcohol consumption but also made it harder for people struggling to seek medical and therapeutic help.
