Over 50 Million Americans Plan to Bet on Super Bowl
The biggest sporting event of the year, the Super Bowl, is held this Sunday between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Americans have been estimated to bet around $16 Billion on the game. This accounts for legal bets, illegal bets through bookies, or casually among friends or family. The Super Bowl is pulling double the bettors it did last year.
This influx comes with the rapid growth of the sports betting industry. Sports betting is not legal in 36 states. Bets are made on player stats, the winner, or, more recently, parlays. Some of the more unconventional betting opportunities are the length of The Star Spangled Banner and the color of the Gatorade poured on the winning coach.
